From the Desk of Democratic Precinct 366 Chair
Bruce McAlister
The largest difference between Democratic and Republican position holders in Texas is that you can visit with Democrats, but Republicans are walled off from the public. Unless you have $10k+ to go to attend a fundraising dinner, you'll have zero chance of speaking with a Republican in office. Testifying is the only way to face them and have your opinions recorded in the congressional record. Testifying is easy. You need to sign up for the Capitol’s Wi-Fi, which is available both in the perimeter and inside the building itself. They have easy-to-use kiosks, or you can use your laptop. The signing opens at approximately 8 a.m. and closes at 11 a.m. Once you sign in, it’s a waiting game. Each issue generally has a hero organization that sets up a Signal channel to provide the necessary sign-in times and when testifying begins. Testifying itself is simple enough. Write notes or read your written testimony. The hero organization will let you know how many hard copies to bring but they seldom ask for more than one. Free speech is king and just be careful about singling out one person.
Be heard!
