But “Liberation Day” carries real weight — it marks the moment when nations like France, Denmark, and Greece were freed from Nazi occupation. Invoking that imagery while pushing policies many people view as authoritarian creates a jarring contradiction. And when he applies that language to his tariff rollout, it doesn’t just distort history — it distracts from the real economic consequences. These tariffs have strained supply chains, raised costs, and hit industries that communities depend on. Calling it “Liberation Day” doesn’t liberate anyone from rising prices or economic pressure; it simply masks the impact behind grandiose rhetoric. It also shows that his current state of mind mocks the real sacrifices of many Americans.

The cost of living in Texas keeps rising, and while Trump ran on “ending inflation,” inflation has increased under his administration. Democrats argue that you can’t fix affordability without understanding the root causes, especially in housing. If you’ve seen The Big Short, you know the 2008 crash didn’t just wipe out homeowners — it bankrupted builders, pushed skilled labor out of the industry, tightened bank lending, and slowed city approvals. The entire system seized up, and we never fully rebuilt.
Today, we’re millions of homes short, and that shortage drives prices higher for everyone. Democrats say the only way to lower the cost of living is to confront how we got here and craft solutions based on evidence, not slogans or party talking points.
Republican approach to housing is a recipe for instability: they prioritize deregulation and private-sector profit over public safety. By stripping away oversight in the name of "streamlining," they sacrifice the structural integrity of our homes to pad the pockets of the wealthy. Republicans want to reduce federal oversight, putting us all at risk.
Democrats want to focus on climate change mitigation, mandatory disaster resilience, strict material oversight, and multi-family zoning reform.

In the Colonial Era of the 1600s and 1700s, there were no public schools. Education was local, religious, and centered on moral instruction. Around the time of the nation's founding in 1776, leaders like Thomas Jefferson argued that publicly funded schools were essential to creating informed communities capable of sustaining a democracy—communities that could prosper, innovate, and progress.
Modern public education took shape in the 1800s through the work of Horace Mann, who insisted that schooling should be free, universal, non‑sectarian, funded by taxes, and staffed by trained professionals. His vision laid the foundation for today’s public school system: state boards of education, teacher-training programs, standardized curricula, and the core belief that public schools exist for the public.
Education has always been progressive because learning itself is progressive. Growth requires forward movement. Returning to a Colonial‑era model of religious and moral instruction — instead of broad, inclusive, academically grounded education — does not serve our communities or our future.
Progress in education is an investment in every child’s future. Their opportunities depend on it.
